Matt Kemp’s mom
My name is Judy Henderson. My son, Matthew Kemp, plays for the Double-A Jacksonville Suns. This is his third year playing minor league ball. We live in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Matthew was drafted out of high school. I am a RN Case Manager for a long-term acute care hospital in the OKC area. I have been a nurse for over 20 years.
It has really been a great experience for me to see my son excel in baseball. He played basketball in high school and baseball was his second sport. He originally wanted to attend college on a basketball scholarship. In his senior year, he was noticed more for baseball than basketball. Then the scouts came and that was that! He decided that baseball was it.

Hi Judy. Mary Ann Shappi here (proud mom of a Dbacks’ minor leaguer). good to read your comments and hope only the best for your son Matt. As chance would have it (who says this isn’t a small world?), one of Matt’s teammates … GREG MILLER … if a personal friend of ours. He and AJ played high school ball together, tho he was a class behind AJ and was drafted out of high school. It sounds like there are a lot of great prospects in that Dodgers’ farm system, and being die-hard Dodger fans out here in sunny So Cal, we try to follow their young players and now we have another one. Looks like he is having a great season and his future looks very bright. Hope it continues for him.
